Provider modes (Demo / Mock / Cloud API / BSP)

What each provider mode does, which ones send real messages, and how to switch.

Provider modes

Every Callduck channel runs in one provider mode. The mode decides whether messages are simulated or really sent. Only Cloud API and BSP (with valid credentials) send real WhatsApp messages.

The four modes

  • DEMO — fully simulated. Sends nothing. The default for new channels and the seeded demo data. Perfect for exploring the product and training your team.
  • MOCK — does not send, but parses test webhook payloads so you can QA inbound message handling, conversations, and status updates without touching Meta.
  • CLOUD_API — your own Meta WhatsApp Cloud API. Callduck calls Meta directly with your Phone Number ID and access token. Sends real messages.
  • BSP — a Meta-approved Business Solution Provider fronts the API on your behalf. Sends real messages.

Which ones send real messages

> Real delivery happens only in CLOUD_API or BSP mode and only when valid credentials are configured. DEMO and MOCK never reach a real customer.

When to use each

| Mode | Use it for | | --- | --- |

  • DEMO → demos, onboarding, learning the UI
  • MOCK → developer/QA testing of inbound flows
  • CLOUD_API → production with your own Meta account
  • BSP → production via a provider that manages the API for you

How to switch in Callduck

  1. Open Channels → WhatsApp.
  2. For Cloud API, add your WABA ID, Phone Number ID, access token, and verify token (see Meta Cloud API).
  3. Set the channel's provider to the target mode.
  4. Confirm the webhook is verified, then send a real test message.

> Start in DEMO, validate your flows in MOCK, and only switch to CLOUD_API/BSP once credentials and the webhook are in place.
